Going Green… Floor Designs of Nevada is proud to be a member of the USGBC (US Green Buildings Council) Nevada Chapter. We offer our homebuyers many “green” products to select from at our showroom. Joining in the effort to clean up our environment, we have united with Springs Preserve to install environmentally green carpet in their buildings. Please visit Springs Preserves’ website to see more information on how they are educating people about “going green”. The link at the top of our home page will take you there.
What can you do to make your home “greener”? Here are a list of simple things you can do in your home to cut your energy bills as well as help with the environment.
- Change your incandescent light bulbs to ENERGY STAR qualified compact fluorescent light bulbs.
- Plant a tree. The shade a tree can give your home can cut your cooling costs by up to 25%.
- Program your thermostat to automatically reduce heating and cooling when you aren’t home or while you are sleeping. ENERGY STAR recommends setting your normal temperature back at least 8° F (for heat) and at least 7° F up (for cooling) during these times.
- Indoor air quality is just as important as the outside, especially since we spend approximately 90 percent of our time indoors. Consider installing green certified tile, carpet, or hardwood floors. Hardwood floors are fully natural and have proven to last for years. Other alternatives include bamboo and cork floors. Bamboo is considered green because it’s fast growing, natural, and can last just as long as wood. Cork is sustainable, hypoallergenic, and naturally antimicrobial, making it a great choice for people with allergies or damp areas. It can also help a poorly insulated area or minimize sound.
